The Windbags Win

Posted June 26, 2011 by headhopper and filed under panda

Don't you just hate people who post never-ending posts that start off nicely but go on and on and on, so you just give up and start scrolling... and scrolling... and scrolling, forever grateful that you didn't make the mistake to slog it out and read the whole thing?

Are you one of them? Well, congratulations to you if you are, because those types of blogs are Panda-proof. On June 17, 2011, a lot of sites, including the little fun blog you're reading right now, got hit by something being referred to as Panda 2.2.

The best insights I've come across are, suprisingly, from Rand in this here transcript, and an epic thread at WebmasterWorld (thanks to SEO Jomer for the link).

The symptoms of Panda 2.2. are unusually intense crawling by the Googlebot on or around June 17, 2011, and failure to rank at the #1 spot for even an exact match search of the title. For example, this site used to be the undisputed numero uno for 'locust swarm'. Now it's halfway down the page, despite enormous PageRank (latent, but enormous).

Oh, and if you have even a few pithy pages on your site, down your whole boat goes. The windbags win.
