When I started coding Qirina I expected to learn a lot of useful things about how search engines crawl and index sites. And I did. What I didn't expect is to discover two new sports I'd never heard of. I mean, I don't live under a rock, and, being a news junkie, I follow diverse news sources daily.
But for some reason I'd never come across parkour. I found out about it thanks to buildering.net, which Qirina associated with 'rock climbing'. Parkour, sometimes also called freerunning, involves traversing an urban landscape by climbing over obstacles. Some of the leaps these guys do are pretty amazing. Here's a viral video.
Qirina shows no less than 30 sites for the keyword 'parkour'.
The other sport I stumbled across is footbiking. I found it thanks to kickitmarketing.blogspot.com.
When you hear a title like "Kick-It Marketing" you immediately assume it's another one of those useless blogs that spew social media jargon without saying anything useful at all. It turns out, it's about footbike racing, which involves propelling strange-looking bicycles without pedalling. You kick the road like skaters do. Awesome.
Both of these sports are fairly well-established and organized. They have competitions and everything. I shudder to think how ignorant I would have remained were it not for my good old keyword analysis engine.
I try not to spend too much time on Qirina as I inevitably come across something so novel and interesting that ends up eating into my entire workday.
