Have you seen Art Project by Google? Forget Google Earth (pretty cool) or Google Maps (fairly useful) or Google Search (I heard it's popular). This is the greatest thing to come out of Google yet. Art Project basically lets you look at photos of paintings taken at mind-bogglingly high resolution. Thus far, not a huge number of museums and paintings are available, and it's tempting to start whining about the Louvre, the Orsay, the Prado etc. But how can one complain about something as wonderful as this, and they do have some awesome classics you can feast your eyes on, such as Night Watch. You can see the brush strokes, as if you're really there at the Rijks. Wow!
I recall about 15 years ago, in 1995, people were excited about the prospect of things like this. The World Wide Web is fantastic! You will be able to see all the museums of the world without leaving your home!
Little did they know that for 15 years all we'd get is stupid cat pictures and heaps of porn. Finally, this Internet thing is turning out to be really useful.
Good job Google. I detest your evil corporate practices which would make even Microsoft blush, but you have redeemed yourselves. Art Project - supposedly a 20% project, who can believe that this was made in someone's free time? - has saved you a place in corporate heaven when you die. Hugs and kisses from Manila, Philippines.
